Over the week, the threats became worse; the torture was laid on heavy. The school didn’t help the boys, and everyone except for Kairi, Naminé, Axel, and Roxas hated them.  Every corner they turned, pain or fighting awaited them, harsh threatening words breaking them down. Through all of the cuts and bruises, both Sora and Riku still loved each other more than anything, and were almost willing to do anything to escape their prison of a life.

Sora couldn’t tell his parents about him and Riku’s relationship, so he just explained it that he was being bullied a lot at school. Which was technically part of the truth.

He had been grounded, his parents assuming that the reason he was picked on so much was that he had to have started some of the fights. While changing some bandages on his legs and arms one night, Sora heard a small knock. He went over to his door, but then realized that the knock was coming from his window. He looked over at the window, and through the night darkness he could make out Riku’s face.

“Riku!”

“Shhh! Come here.”

“How did you climb all the way up here?”

“The decorative ladder that your mom uses to grow ivy on is easy to climb.”

Sora smiled at Riku, blushing slightly.

“Well, what are you waiting for? I need to take you somewhere.”

Sora took Riku’s hand as they carefully climbed out of Sora’s bedroom window, cautiously scaling down the side of the house. Once they were once again on the ground, Riku picked up a bag, holding Sora’s hand with his free hand. “Let’s go.”

Riku led Sora to the beach that was near them, which was near the house. They sat in the sand, tall grass behind them, looking up at the stars. “What’s in the bag, Riku?”

Riku pulled out of the bag two items. The first was a yellow fruit, shaped like a star. And the second was a bottle, filled with a clear liquid.

“Sora…if we both eat this fruit…we can be together forever…no matter what. I’m so tired of living in pain, I just want to be with you. I love you.”

“Riku…I want to be with you forever, I love you too.”

Riku and Sora smiled at each other, as Riku held up the fruit. Sora looked back at him willingly, as the moonlight danced on the ocean waves.

Both boys couldn’t have felt better at the moment, eternally in love, staring out at the sea. Riku looked down sadly, beginning to speak.

“Sora…I’m so sick of all the threats…and I hate more than anything…to see you hurt. But…I have a way…”

Riku pulled the bottle back out of the bag, opening the lid. “If we both drink this, we’ll go quickly and painlessly, but because of the fruit…we can be together forever. No matter what.”

Sora’s innocent eyes were serious, as he read Riku’s expression, analyzing his words. “All I want…is to be with you.”

Both boys’ mouths tingled with the aftertaste of the poison, waiting for it to work. “This is it…I’ll see you on the other side, Sora.”

Sora nodded, staring deeply into Riku’s eyes. They both leaned in, soft lips caressing, hands holding tightly onto each other. It was their last kiss in this life.

The kiss lasted as long as they could last. Soon, Sora slumped over, his breath escaping him. Riku gave out soon also, and the two lay in the sand, pale moonlight dancing on their skin.



Riku waited, not sure where he was, or what he was doing there. Soon, he saw another boy appear before him, and then he knew, he remembered. “We’re free.”

Sora smiled back at him. “We’re free.” He repeated, taking Riku’s hand.
